Since I am going to be spending all of my time here [when I’m not either working or cooking ordering take-outs], I decided to give my boudoir a boost and make it less bourgeois and more bohemian / vintage. So as soon as I returned home from work, I got cracking.
I had to enlist the help of Star and a friend of his to help move my over 100 kg four-poster wrought iron bed from against the [only] wall and put it against the window. With the temperatures dipping I need to take advantage of the afternoon sun, plus the gold of the bed and the burgundy bedding set look beautiful against my curtains. The pink feathery thing hanging from the middle of the bed is my dream catcher, and if you look closely, you’ll see the bed is inset with brass angels. So I am very protected at night!
Then I took the crap off my side table, leaving only the brass lamp; and put on my shutter mirror [I think I’m going to paint it pink or purple to give a bit of contrast], and added my Marilyn plate [thank you Scarlet!] and cigarette case. It wasn’t looking bohemian enough for my liking, so I wrapped my belly-dancing skirt around the lampshape.
The completed corner.
After rummaging through my dresser to get the belly-dancing skirt, I decided to sort through all the drawers of my drawers [hehehe] and put my goodies in order.
Left drawer – jewelry
Right drawer – none of your business
3rd drawer – brassieres
4th drawer – g-strings and boy shorts
5th drawer – bikini’s
6th drawer – corsets, bustiers and other lingerie
I previously had an entertainment system on top of the dresser, but it literally took up the entire surface, so I swopped it for Angel’s portable CD player, added moved my Buddha from his corner, together with my two decks of Angel cards, my God box, inspirational calendar and angel snowglobe. Oh and I draped a fushia scarf over the mirror as the wall is very bland.
When finances allow, I’m going to remove everything except Buddha and fill the table with antique perfume bottles. I think that will look stunning! I also need to repaint the top of the dresser, as it still has gold teddy bears from when Angel was a baby and this was her dresser. And the handles need replacing. I’d also like to paint the wall, but it all costs money I don’t have, so all in good time.
This left the 3rd corner of my bedroom very bare, so I moved my Marilyn screen and one of my art prints there. My passage walls are lined with Marilyn pictures and I’ve run out of space and I hate seeing her relegated to the floor, so this was a win-win situation.
I then brought all my MM picture books from the lounge so that they can be within reaching distance for my many long nights in bed. They’re leaning on an ‘olden day’ [not quite yet antique] cine speaker box.
I’ve already thrown out a full dustbin bag full of crap from the drawers, and floor; and tomorrow I will be sorting through all the boxes under my bed; and if time allows, to go through my closets too … all five of them. *gulp*
I am decluttering my life and my room and damn it feels good!!!
